Autodesk Inc., a world leader in 2D and 3D design and entertainment software for the media and entertainment markets, announced the release of Advance Products 2016.

San Rafael, Calif., October 2, 2013 - Autodesk has signed a definitive agreement with the shareholders of Graitec to acquire certain technology assets, including Graitec's Advance Steel and Advance Concrete product lines, and associated employees. The acquisition will enhance Autodesk's current offerings for structural engineering and expand its portfolio of technology for Building Information Modeling (BIM) for structural fabrication and detailing. Through the proposed acquisition, Autodesk will continue to lead the industry's migration to BIM and evolution of model-based workflows for structural engineers, detailers, fabricators and contractors who provide modeling, analysis, detailing, and production services.

Graitec is a global provider of CAD and engineering software for structural engineering, civil engineering and building construction headquartered in France. Graitec's Advance Steel and Advance Concrete products offer modeling, detailing, and fabrication solutions to support BIM-based steel and reinforced concrete workflows. Graitec will to continue to sell and support Advance Steel and Advance Concrete, as well as sell, support, and develop its remaining products for structural engineering.

Advance Steel detailing software helps accelerate design, steel detailing, steel fabrication, and steel construction-built on the familiar AutoCAD platform.

Key customer-driven enhancements for Advance Steel 2016 include:
- Steel Modeling: Scalability & Performance Improvements - Helps to navigate more efficiently in a model by quickly isolating selected elements in a work area to be displayed in the current visual style, while the other elements get a much lower LOD (beams axis shown only). This enhanced feature helps improves performance when working with complex models.

- Steel Modeling: Weld definition properties enhanced - Representing specific weld characteristics in a DWG file used for fabrication can be a time-consuming, tedious task. Enhancements now help users to define weld properties directly [e.g. effective throat or root opening], or opt to have them set automatically when using the automatic steel connections feature. The resulting ISO standards-compliant weld symbols are displayed automatically on drawings; and specific preferences may then be easily adjusted in the DWG file.

Specify weld properties in the model and get them being displayed more accurately on drawings.

- Interoperability: Status tracking information - Helps to easily round-trip model information with MIS software thanks to a bidirectional link. This enables the updating of a model with the current status information from fabrication to shipping. Elements can then be colorized in the 3D model based on these updated status. These features help facilitate an integrated steel fabrication management process.


Advance Concrete software for concrete design and detailing is built on the AutoCAD platform. Model more quickly and accurately, and generate construction drawings and deliverables. Advance Concrete is interoperable with Revit software for a connected Building Information Modeling workflow.
